This piece began with a meditative drawing during a time of chaos in my life each color represents the many emotions I was experiencing at the time loss, sorrow and then hope for the future. My intention was to explore the connection between shape, colors and emotions to create a visual emotional landscape.

This drawing was visually manipulated until I found the pattern that most reflected my emotions and felt true to me. Spoonflower printed the cloth. Next came the stitching …what lines did I want to stitch to enhance and add texture to specific shapes and colors. What shapes did I want to leave unstitched so they would come out from the surface and what did I want to densely stitch to move to the background. Each stitching line and color was carefully considered before I began stitching the pattern out. There is an intimacy when I am working so closely to a piece that I love… it is a meditation a place of calm.

This piece took approximately 350 hours to complete from original drawing to completed art quilt it was a labor of love, sometimes frustration and lots of tired back and shoulder muscles. The result is satisfying to me it feels complete and true to my original intention.

It is an invitation for you to reflect on your own emotional landscapes and perhaps find the ways in which your own landscapes are changing in color and texture as you grow and evolve as you move through life.

  1. Just -What they said. I’m with Bethany on this. I really want to see it in person. I suspect a flat computer image does not convey all that this work is saying to us.

  2. I’m impressed with how expressive this design was of your life experience at the time, but also with the care you devoted to the production. Thank you for the effort expended on this work, Jacque!

  3. Stunningly Beautiful… the time line, amazing. I would love to see this art in person one day!
