Some of my artwork involves trying to get viewers to think, and possibly change their minds a bit. I make work about situations that bother me, and that I wish were different. I’ve done a series of quilts about victims of the war in Ukraine, and another collection about gun violence in the United States.
This quilt is a reminder of a basic action which will certainly make the world a better place.
Lately I have had some discussions of a political nature with social media acquaintances. I’ve tried to get them to consider changing their minds regarding candidates and issues which will be on the ballot tomorrow. The next few days in the USA will be historic, and I hope peaceful.
The quilt I am creating for this Change of Mind theme has nothing to do with politics, or war, or gun violence. You will need to be patient until the end of November, when Cloth in Common artists reveal our ideas in fabric form about changing minds!
Actually if this makes me think about is the negative and positive spaces .Having just seen a fabulous exhibit of the work of MC Escher. It’s a traveling exhibit if you get a chance to see it please do so. It follows his work from early years to the graphic work near the end of his career that we always think of Escher, exploring completely impossible places. He’s a master of positive and negative expenses and playing with their interaction.
Thank you for your post, Karol…we so need your reminder, and with heartfelt patience, the difficult time will pass. I can’t wait to see our reveals at month’s end. (Love your quilt!)
