It’s my turn to blog about the reflection prompt.  The last prompt was identity, and I created a self-portrait. I did a lot of reflecting when I created that piece.  If I were back in college, I would have reworked the project for this class.  But that’s not the point of these challenges.  So I have to create something new.

I have collected images of reflections in buildings for years.  I must have a couple hundred from Hong Kong alone.

I also like reflections in water.  One of my many favorite artists is Walter Inglis Anderson. I discovered this prolific painter and print maker on a road trip I took with my husband to visit places I had lived along the Gulf of Mexico.  I love how he paints water, particularly this one with reflections.

Here’s one of my reflections of lights in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour.

But then I go back to one of my goals for joining this group: to have 12 pieces of my own work with something in common. A body of work. I’ve been creating some abstracts using Ibis Paint X on my digital tablet and editing them further with Photoshop on my desktop. I think this technique might be my unifying factor.

I feel really comfortable showing you what I started with–even though I’m not supposed to show the piece before the reveal date. The final image looks NOTHING (I mean nothing!) like this sketch.

I’m having the fabric printed as I write—I can’t wait to start stitching it.

Check back at the end of September.
