What could be more important in either creating community or fracturing it but the media?! What a great idea, Mikiko.  I wonder why none of the rest of us thought of it?

It is dizzying to think of the number of TV networks there are now, and new ones all the time.

It is difficult to find programs that you can experience along with another person.  Everyone is watching something different!

Facebook and other social media platforms spread plenty of good cheer, but are also mediums for all kinds of harmful conspiracy theories, rumors, and outright lies.

Most recently the wearing of masks to help guard against airborne transmission of the Coronavirus has become a battleground in the culture war, just as it was in the 1918 flu epidemic.

The United States currently has a president who steeps himself in attacking the news media and scientific experts, which only adds fuel to the fire.

Additionally the question of newspaper media hits home for me, as I live in a small town where we have long depended on the excellent journalism of both the Hamburg Item and Reading Eagle. The former has gone under, or rather merged, and the Reading Eagle was bought out by a hedge fund which has been buying up similarly bankrupt small papers and bleeding them dry, leaving just a ghost of the former press.

How is any of this going to end up in a quilt? I have no idea, but there is plenty of food for thought here.

現在、米国には大統領がいて、ニュースメディアや科学専門家を攻撃しているが、火に燃料を追加しているだけである。

さらに、私はハンブルグアイテムとリーディングイーグルの優れたジャーナリズムに長い間依存してきた小さな町に住んでいるので、新聞メディアの問題に私は心を奪われます。前者は破綻したか、または合併し、リーディングイーグルは、同様に破産した小さな紙を買い取り、それらを乾燥させて、元の報道の幽霊を残したヘッジファンドによって買収されました。
