Doors, openings and portals is a really interesting prompt for Cloth in Common. We all travel through a multitude of these everyday.
My mind immediately thought of the hallway in Anton Gaudi’s Casa Battlo in Barcelona.
This remains one of my favourite buildings of all time and passing through this corridor on the way to the beautiful rooftop was the inspiration for my quilt called Blue Corridor. I made this quilt a few years ago and hangs in the corridor outside my studio so I look at it everyday. It is made of printed ½” hexagons in 8 shades of blue. The pattern in the hexagons is based on Gaudi’s patterned tiles.
Gaudi continues to inspire me
The hexagons were actually printed with a thermofax machine in groups so I could just cut as many as i needed and they were fused down.
Half inch hexagons, Lisa? How many years did the quilt take to build? Wow.
Stunning art, Lisa… the layering/interfusion of colour and stitch patterning, so beautiful.
