The design was roughly adapted from a photo of my daughter and me during an ice skating adventure on my birthday.  I like using colors that are opposite on the color wheel, like blue-green and red-orange.  Complementary colors seem to demand our attention. 

I started with a background meant for a different quilt, which was never completed, and set aside for several years.  I had admired a collaged paper figure portrait and decided to work in that style.  While building the clothing shapes, I left ‘cracks’ for the background color to show, and then added some of the colors from the figures to the background.  The goal was to create a figure-ground relationship, which I think adds to the composition.

Some fun additions were the text from a child’s T shirt and a crocheted doily, which provided curls for my hair.

親友 このデザインは、私の誕生日に娘とアイススケートの冒険中に撮った写真を大まかに採用したものです。 私は、青緑や赤オレンジなど、色相環上で反対の色を使用するのが好きです。 補色は私たちの注意を必要としているようです。 別のキルト用の背景から始めましたが、完成することはなく、数年間放置されました。 私はコラージュされた紙の人物ポートレートに憧れていたので、そのスタイルで仕事をすることにしました。 衣服の形状を構築する際、背景色が見えるように「ひび割れ」を残してから、人物の色の一部を背景に追加しました。 目標は、図と地面の関係を作り出すことであり、それが構図をさらに豊かなものにしていると思います。 楽しい追加としては、子供の T シャツのテキストや、髪にカールを与えるかぎ針編みのドイリーなどがありました。 親友 42×25インチ 背景は手作業でアップリケ、溶融生地、ミシンキルティング
