Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls , New York are separated by several bridges, none of which are very long. At two of these bridges you can actually wave on the Canadian side to someone on the American side and they would wave back!
As teenagers many of us had friends on both sides who would visit back and forth by walking across the bridge for the price of one nickle with NO PASSPORT OR ID! I actually had a friend who would meet me in the middle of the bridge with both flags above us. We would laugh when we realized he was on the American side and I was on the Canadian side separated by a white painted line.

I lived in Lewiston NY for a while and between Lewsiton NY and Queenston Ontario there was a suspension bridge that joined the two countries. It was made with heavy logs and ropes, and it was not very long. It has since been removed and replaced with the New Lewiston Queenston Bridge. When there were race riots in Buffalo NY around 1961 ( a little known fact)they gave a three hour notice that the borders would be closed. My Father was afraid that I would not get to Canada for days so he had my Aunt drive me to the “rope” bridge where he waited on the Canadian side. When we got to the bridge it was closed to cars. BUT a very understanding customs officer got me out of the car and walked me to the centre of the bridge where a Canadian customs officer met him and then walked me to Canada!

A bridge is a bridge is a bridge! BUT what constitutes a bridge?
A spider can make a bridge with silk. A dentist can make a bridge for your mouth. There is a card game called Bridge. We hear about bridge financing, bridging the gap , bridging on sewing. We have a communal gardens in Niagara Falls called Bridge Gardening!

This week my wife and I are in Italy for a course and we are spending a few days in Florence where we will cross…..the Ponte Vecchio Bridge!

I have no idea where this prompt will take me…….but I will cross that bridge when I get to it!
