The next prompt for our creations is “Building”, to be interpreted as a noun or a verb. This, for me, is the perfect prompt right now, because I’m very inspired by my recent travels to Europe. I was able to spend 7 weeks in the fall with family and friends in Germany, with a little bit of sightseeing thrown into the mix. I took lots of photos of buildings, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to go with the noun version of our prompt. Having lived in Canada for almost 20 years now, I do appreciate the old buildings and the historic sites in Germany all the more and I’m very glad I get to go back there to see it all again. So, be prepared for a lot of photos in this post.

Some of the buildings were large churches with impressive architectural details.

Some of the houses in the inner city of Speyer on the Rhine were beautiful old buildings.

Next up is Ruedesheim on the Rhine, a small city amidst a wine-producing region, with a lot of timber frame houses that were stacked very closely next to each other. The cobblestone lanes in the city were so narrow!

How about some really old castle ruins along the Rhine River valley? This is Rheinfels Castle, above St. Goar, started in 1245, and the largest castle overlooking the Rhine. Rheinfels Castle – Wikipedia

Next up are some pictures taken at an industrial ruin in Homburg/Saar, a former iron-making factory in the coal-producing region of Saarland in western Germany, close to the French border. This whole industrial complex is a World Heritage Site and industrial museum called Voelklinger Huette, see Völklingen Ironworks – UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

So, you see that I don’t have any shortage of inspiring photos! I just have to decide which to take and make into a hopefully good artwork in answer to our challenge. Which one would you choose?

  1. What a magical tour, and the immense size of some of the structures and buildings – fascinating. Excited to see where your work travels as you bring back the memories of this past fall – so many possibilities.

    1. Lisa, yes, too many choices, and I have many more pictures! I’ll have to bucke down in the new year to get started.

  2. Ooh yes Regina, I don’t have to think long. I would choose the old castle with the see-through. In this way it is also “Pula” made for the theme of doors and openings.

Tell us what you think.
