What Shall I celebrate?

Celebration.
On a personal level I’m celebrating our decision to upgrade our beloved backyard fire pit area, including pavers and a new firepit that eats it’s own smoke!!
Plus, the fact that (surely!?) spring is coming before too long and this long, cold winter will come to an end.
Politically I celebrate the opposition to the ICE raids and overreach, at the same time as I’m frustrated by a general lack of political clarity (why isn’t it obvious to everyone else that it makes sense to present politically clear demands like “Stop the Deportations!” instead of bringing signs with such a wide variety of thoughts and feelings.) But I grouse..
Nationally we can celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a truly historic document and revolution which was the beginning of the end of the British Empire and which injected a shot of adrenaline in the nascent fight to end slavery in America, which resulted in the US Civil War less than 100 years later.
Do I know what my quilt will be about? Not yet. But ideas are percolating!

個人的には、愛する裏庭の焚き火台エリアをアップグレードすることにしたことをお祝いしています。舗装材を敷き、煙を吸い込む新しい焚き火台も設置しました！
そして、もうすぐ春がやってきて（まさか！？）、この長く寒い冬も終わりを迎えるという事実も。
政治的には、ICEの襲撃や権限の濫用に対する反対を称賛すると同時に、政治的な透明性の欠如に苛立ちを感じています（多様な考えや感情を込めたプラカードを掲げるのではなく、「国外追放を止めろ！」といった政治的に明確な要求を掲げる方が理にかなっていることが、なぜ他の人には理解できないのでしょうか）。しかし、不満も残ります…
全国的には、独立宣言調印250周年を祝うことができます。独立宣言は真に歴史的な文書であり、大英帝国の終焉の始まりであり、アメリカにおける奴隷制廃止に向けた初期の闘争に刺激を与え、100年も経たないうちに南北戦争へと発展した革命でした。
私のキルトがどんなテーマになるか？まだ決まっていません。でも、アイデアは湧き上がってきています！
