Artists, Janine Ibbini, Connections, Revealed Quilts,
For a number of years, I was of the mindset that handwork was too slow, and I was eager to sew, working only by machine.
Then I learned English Paper Piecing (EPP), and I was amazed and delighted by how quickly the piecing grows! I find the technique very calming and meditative, as well as highly portable, with the ability to use many types of fabric.
I have been sharing this technique with others, creating small kits that include hexagon papers, fabrics, and needle and thread. I have taught many women, as well as some men and girls, this technique. Even those who didn’t know how to sew a button can easily take up this technique.
I’m always delighted when others experience the same joy that I feel when sewing in this way.
It’s a wonderful way to create many more Connections.

It has become a beautiful colorful whole, Janine. How wonderful that you also turned a few hexagons. I have a question, how and with what do you paint buttons?
Beautiful piece.
Love this Janine! A very dramatic and modern display of tradional hexagons combined with all the bright buttons. It’s a delightful interpretation of a time honored piecing tradition. Just yummy!
So beautiful, Janine… and a wonderful flow into the body of the artwork, sharing the buttons and hexagons in radiating colour – delicious. Thank your for sharing the story and your focus on the handwork.
