Faces. The first prompt of Round Three. For this round I’ve decided to go with pieced art quilts. There are a few reasons for this change.
First, I really like to piece, and in the waning months of the Coronavirus shutdown, I made several pieced quilts based on wonky graphic symbols, like the Greek key. In fact I used that design as the basis of my quilt depicting isolation. (You may have read about it here: https://clothincommon.com/isolation-the-quilt/).
The second reason for switching to pieced quilts is time—or lack thereof. I had been creating digital images and having them printed on fabric. Since I don’t print on fabric myself anymore, I had to send the images out. The turnaround time was usually a month. Since I like to hand stitch the digital images, if I didn’t think of an idea for the prompt immediately after it was announced, I was always rushing to finish on time.
Finally, I presented all my artwork to my fabulous critique group, in the hopes that they would help me decide where I should concentrate my artistic energy. After listening to all the comments, I decided to focus on my wonky, intricately pieced and slightly humorous style.
So there you have it. I’ll give you a sneak peek at some of the components of my Face quilt, but you’ll have to wait until the end of July to see how I put it all together.
I am intrigued and really love that you have taken your path forward in your own way – and celebrate the bold piecing and your commitment to building on that focused energy that is all yours! Can’t wait for the finish!
Yep, that’s another reason, Karol.
This method will be perfect for ‘Structures’!
