How often do you hear the phrase ‘we live in interesting times’? It feels like too often. Especially when ‘interesting’ isn’t always what we mean. We live in scary times. We live in unsettling times. We live in sad, desperate times. Whether it is immigrants drowning as they try to reach safety, or the latest posturing from Trump I get the sense that our world has shifted.
Here in the United Kingdom our political order is in disarray. Yes, I’m talking Brexit (which might not mean much to everyone) but what I’m really talking about is division within our political parties and within our society. The rich are getting richer and the poor and disadvantaged don’t stand a chance. We are no longer the United Kingdom. We are the dis-United Kingdom.
And so my prompt is a dark one, possibly a political one, maybe a controversial one – it is disunity.
