Today we are beginning a new round of work with the overall theme: Create, Inspire, Connect. Our group, Cloth in Common is dedicated to creating work to inspire and connect with others. I have the honor of presenting the very first prompt for this round, and have decided on a theme that has inspired me to create more freely. Our first prompt will be Embrace Imperfection. As we all know, nobody is perfect. If we can relax and accept mistakes, and learn to just roll with them and continue on, that free attitude will show in our work and be attractive to other imperfect individuals. I was reminded of this idea recently by an artist friend, Shin-hee Chin, who said, “Your weakness is your uniqueness!”

In college, I learned to work quickly. Projects were due, and I got creative!! I tried methods that would save time, and that freed me up to have fun and play and experiment. I once read about an instructor who taught a pottery class. He valued quantity over quality, and students found that by adhering to this ethic, their work improved and they learned more. When we just get busy and produce work at a rapid pace, we don’t allow ourselves time to stew over decisions and get uptight about them, and again, that freedom and joyfulness shows in our work.

We look forward to creating, inspiring and connecting with you, our followers, and we invite you to play alongside of us, as we present our bimonthly prompts. We will be posting to the blog every Tuesday about our thoughts and progress as we decide how to interpret each theme. 本日は、「創造、刺激、繋がり」を全体テーマに、新たなワークラウンドを始めます。私たちのグループ「Cloth in Common」は、人々に刺激を与え、繋がりを生む作品作りに尽力しています。このラウンドの最初のプロンプトを発表する栄誉に浴し、より自由な創作活動へのインスピレーションを与えてくれたテーマを選びました。最初のプロンプトは「不完全さを受け入れる」です。誰もが知っているように、完璧な人間などいません。リラックスして間違いを受け入れ、それを受け入れ、そのまま受け入れて進み続けることができれば、その自由な姿勢は作品に表れ、他の不完全な人々にとって魅力的なものとなるでしょう。最近、アーティストの友人であるシンヒ・チンからこの言葉を思い出しました。「あなたの弱点は、あなたのユニークさです！」 大学時代、私は仕事を素早く進めることを学びました。課題の締め切りが迫る中、創造力を発揮しました！時間を節約する方法を試した結果、楽しみ、遊び、実験する時間を持つことができました。以前、陶芸教室の講師について読んだことがあります。彼は質よりも量を重視し、生徒たちはこの倫理観を貫くことで作品の質が向上し、より多くのことを学ぶことができました。忙しくなり、猛スピードで制作していると、決断をあれこれ悩んだり、神経質になったりする暇がありません。そして、その自由さと喜びが作品に表れています。 フォロワーの皆さんと共に創作活動を行い、刺激を与え、繋がれることを楽しみにしています。隔月でテーマを発表する中で、ぜひ一緒に遊んでみてください。毎週火曜日に、各テーマの解釈方法を決める私たちの考えや進捗状況をブログに投稿していきます。フィードバックは大歓迎ですので、ぜひ私たちの投稿を購読し、コメントをお寄せください。
