We moved house recently
Even though we didn’t move too far in location. Nor was the layout of our new house a great deal different. Basically there was not a great deal of change to our lives.
However, I found my creative flow stopped altogether.
My creative space was disorganized for many weeks, and I began to fear I may never get into the flow. Ever!
Of course life is always offering up changes and challenges and I usually can find my muse again.
This time around was much harder.
Do you remember Goethe’s quote? The quote helped me remember to begin.
I remembered a habit I have practiced before when I have felt creatively low.
I take a bag of scraps, or even little tiny crumbs of fabric. Sort them into colours, iron them, and begin.
One small piece at a time, sew them each day, begin with little steps and gradually build up units.
And so on and so forth.
To me the result here, is joyful and so colourful. It makes me smile, always a good sign!
I’m smiling because I’m in the creative flow again.
I have truly found my home.
Dimension 40″ x 32″ 100% cotton. Machine pieced and quilted
Your lovely quilt is so vibrant Janine. It really makes me smile too!
I can see that you have thoroughly enjoyed this latest quilt, even if it has been made in almost record time!
It is quite exciting, to try to go forward with no clear direction or focus other than wanting to make something really brightly coloured!
This quilt has a powerful energy, which I am sure has really lifted your spirit.
Thank you for your comment Di
What is Goethe’s quote that you referred to?
Here’s the quote
Whatever you do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.
Janine, when everything is messed up, it’s hard to be creative. I have it sometimes when I’m traveling. This winter we lived in Spain for 3 months. I could only take a small part of my materials with me. I’ve done almost nothing. Once home, I created my “Breathless” work in a week. Things always turn out fine! be it due to time pressure, change of space or too little material. Things always turn out fine.
Thank you so much for your comment
Yes you’re right.
Even though we sometimes feel stressed about our creative flow and not being in the right place for it, as you say, Things always turn out to be fine in the end!!
Amazing that you completed your piece within a week! Well done!!
We have a number of friends with sleep apnea.
I often wonder is it a new disease? Did people suffer with it in times gone by?
Is it due to more stress in our lives? Due to lifestyle?
We are so glad to see that you are enjoying creative flow again, Janine. A move is a huge transition, and you are on a new path! Welcome Home!! (and you have create a super great new quilt!)
Thank you so much for your kind comment
Oh, what a nice story, and a beautiful quilt to go with it! Good luck in your new home.
Really — nothing has changed?
Thank so much – yes you’re so right, Martha, nothing really changed.
Except I have more working space!!
