My husband and I had planned a big project of creating a forest on two of our acres, meeting with our county forester, researching the best species of trees to plant, buying equipment etc.

Then at the beginning of April, when our 700 seedlings were delivered, simultaneously came the “stay at home” order from the Governor of Pennsylvania because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our volunteers evaporated overnight. I had imagined myself supervising a dozen boy scouts doing the actual digging and planting. Instead Jay and I, 70-plus year olds, were faced with completing the task.

Except for three friends (or angels?) who came through to help. It was still an enormous amount of work, but I wanted to express my gratitude to them by making this quilt.

Our forest, which will, in its time, breath oxygen into the air and enrich the soil and our lives, got its start by acts of sharing and kindness.

夫と私は2エーカーの2か所に森を作り、郡の森林官と面会し、植えるのに最適な樹種を研究し、機器を購入するなど、大きなプロジェクトを計画していました。
その後、4月の初めに700本の苗木が配達されたと同時に、コロナウイルスのパンデミックのためにペンシルベニア州知事から「家にいる」という注文が来ました。
私たちのボランティアは一晩で蒸発しました。実際の掘り起こしや植栽を行っている数十人のボーイスカウトを監督している自分を想像していました。代わりに、ジェイと私、70歳以上は、タスクを完了することに直面しました。
頑張って手伝ってくれた3人の友達（または天使？）を除いて。それでも大変な作業でしたが、このキルトを作って彼らに感謝の気持ちを伝えたかったのです。
その時、空気中に酸素を吸い込み、土壌と私たちの生活を豊かにする私たちの森は、分かち合いと優しさから始まりました。
