I live in Florida, a hot and humid place.  It is getting hotter and more humid for a longer period of time during the year. Many days, it feels like being in a sauna.  I chose to focus on this feeling to illustrate my take on climate change. 

I love the look of mosaics so I searched through my warm colored scrap collection and began placing pieces onto solid black fabric with spaces in between.  Most of the scraps, but not all were roughly square or rectangular.  Knowing that climate change is affecting plants and animals, I included prints including fish, birds, flowers and leaves.  Some of the patterns resembled heat waves, fire, or spirals.  I included tiny bits of cool colors to make the warm colors appear even hotter. 

There is evidence that climate change is fueling a phenomenon called Red Tide, which in the summer of 2021 killed more than 600 tons of marine life here in Florida.  The danger is real and is toxic to humans as well.  We must do better at curbing this disaster.
