As we work through our latest prompt, HABIT Change, I have been often pondering as I work along… Thinking about what I do and what I miss as a human on the edge of growing older. There are days that I just love saying “YES” to things: teaching, area travels, meeting and working with people, etc., and many more days where I wish I could say “No”!
As the days pass by, and many things just fall off the calendar, there are places I dream of visiting. (and I did get to Niagara Falls with a group I took to share in recent classroom visits, I did get to see the falls this winter). I’d love being with my USA family for fun travels and time together instead of the many days that I am somewhat chained to the offers of “sure, I would be happy to do that for/with you”.
Humm… Travel rarely happens. I stay close to my studio, and work with friends and folks who really do need some help or encouragement… guess I was born to take my habits seriously and just enjoy the habit of BEING – with friends, the many who are keen to learn from my help and keep me moving and busy!
Anyone else feel that? Saying YES has always seemed to be a very easy and appropriate habit for me. What I have not settled on, like so many others is that there are life adventures I would love to switch for with my own ‘generous habit’. I know how much of life just speeds away time and dreams. And yet, the habit of saying yes has always been a part of life for me. It can be fun, too!
I love to follow many of our Cloth in Common friends – and hear where they have traveled the world… thay master seeing the beauty and watching the many changes that are seen when traveling. Many of us do have that dream, looking forward to our favourite places or FINALLY getting to meet up with distance friends or visit them across the seas and lands we have never visited. Having these friends is a very best habit!
Bethany, you may not have as many “miles” on your passport as you would like, but you have travelled hundreds of paths in the hearts of your many fibre arts students and friends. Your habit of not saying ‘No’ due to your nurturing, generous, sharing nature has allowed many of us to travel into our imaginations with some confidence. I think of you as a superior Fibre Arts Travel Guide! hugs, m
Awww. That is very sweet Beth. I’m not done traveling the world, but I sure do love sticking by home as well. I relate!
Now . . .to put this into a quilt . . .?!
