So our new prompt is habit. I had to think about it first. You have the daily habit, such as brushing your teeth or cooking food. Something you do naturally, without having to think about it. I think even breathing is a habit. But also the habits that don’t repeat themselves easily, such as inviting people over on your birthday and eating cake. Is that a habit or does this start a tradition? Going on holiday every year, whether or not to the same destination, is that habit, or do you need relaxation at a certain time? Does a habit help you relax? I think it can vary from person to person. What if you break a habit? In case of bad habits, this may be desirable. A Dutch proverb says;
everything that AT stands for is not good.
-Overeating,
-drinking work
-Spending money
Breaking a bad habit takes a lot of effort, especially if you’ve been doing it for a long time.
Catherine wrote, already with 12 repetitions you create a habit.
On the internet I came across a quote by Brian Smart;
read 20 pages a day = 30 books a year,
run 10 000 steps a day = 70 marathons a year,
creating 2 social posts per day = 730 social updates per year.
Never underestimate the power of small habits!!
I work with thread and needle every day, which is a nice habit, which I do with great pleasure. I hope I can keep that up for a long time. Here is my work that I’m working on now.
I have been working hard, dropping habits for some time. I know though that some are great habits! Contacting close friends regularly, tidying desks and storage, making peanut butter cookies for my grandson… you know! Walking through life with repetition can be fun and bad habits – well, gotta go!
This theme will get us thinking about our habits, both good and bad!! That’s a positive practice.
