During the last holiday we visited the south coast of Spain.
La Manga del Mar Menor is located in the Murcia region.
La Manga is a narrow strip of land with a length of 22 km and a width of 1.5 km. This strip of land closes off the inland sea from the open water, the Mediterranean Sea, but is still connected to the open Sea via four channels. This created the largest inland seawater in Europe, called Mar Menor.
This area is described as “a paradise” between two seas. You have beautiful beaches and great suns on and downs.
Even the moon shows itself from the most beautiful side.
Unfortunately, it is completely full of towering flats for tourists. During our trip it was winter and fortunately not high season.
My quilting heart was racing, what an inspiration! The colors were truly paradisiacal.
Fortunately, I can realize my ideas in this prompt ” pattern”.
As I have already written in the blog, the oldest block is the Log Cabin block.
The choice was not difficult, the colors quickly chosen and the concept is ready. I still had 3 weeks to realize everything. If you know what you want to make, the execution is easy.
I painted two fabrics, one for the air and one for the water. I have kept the flats in light colors, you can see that a lot on the Spanish Costa.
During the quilting, I used a gradient yarn in two different shades of blue. This gives a very nice result, when it comes to water
An exciting work that I enjoyed making.
Dimensions: 40 x 42 inch
Material: Commercial and hand dyed cotton
Technique: Improvisational strip pieced, machine pieced, longarm quilted
A unique interpretation executed so well!
Exquisite colours
So very beautiful,Elfriede – and your focused design and exciting dyeing of the cloth as you saw and recalled the walks long the beach – perfectly shared here with us.
Great depiction of the place and the prompt. What beautiful shades of blue. And your photo of the moon is beautiful. All of it makes me want to visit La Manga.
