The next prompt for our group is “Lines”. It inspires lots of options when you are thinking about our overarching theme of “Structure. Immediately you think about lines on a road, telephone lines, building lines but what are some of the other options? I wonder if my fellow artists will also think about ageing lines on someone’s face? Does it evoke memories of school days when you possibly got into trouble and had to write 100 lines of ‘I must not…..’? What about the lines of a song or a play or a poem? Or the lines of people waiting for the bus or to get on a plane or waiting for the shop to open to sell its hot specials?
Yes “Lines” has endless possibilities and I will think about how this word relates to my theme on my country New Zealand. Will I use the modern lines of the new buildings or the train lines taking you on a scenic journey or maybe the Alpine fault line? Maybe it will just be the lines on the walkway covered over by a large seal? Plenty of options but you will have to wait until the reveals in two months time.
Catherine, you have brought us so many wonderful options. For me, the timing with holidays approaching, and ideas fast building, followed by the quiet, creative month of January – there will be great inspiration!
You’ve given us plenty of leeway with this prompt, Catherine. Thank you! I’ve made some lines with bias strips, but I have no idea how (or if) I’ll use them. Also thinking of making something with a bunch of striped fabrics . . . .
I took a class with Joe Cunningham and he had us all using bias tape lines. It was a multitude of delightful line drawings with sewing machines. My favorite was on a red and yellow plaid cotton with several straight red lines and one twisting and curling. I named it “Get Back in Line!”
