In November, the day sometimes starts cold and foggy. The world is very small. If you walk the dog or go for a walk in the morning, you will see the contours of the trees, houses and the landscape. The first lights seem to almost warm the village. Slowly the world awakens and what brings us the new day that is still ahead of us.
For this project I first had to paint a piece of white cotton grey. With acrylic paint I painted the contours of the trees and the roofs of the houses.
With discharge I stamped the windows. After ironing I saw that they were almost white. I then painted these yellow with “inktense” colored pencils.
The intention was to create a foggy whole, so I didn’t have to draw too many details. I reinforced the yellow color of the windows with voile and organza. Now you also saw the lights shining out more.
The quilting work brings the quilt to life. The square in front of the village is deliberately quilted in horizontal lines, this gives space and variety. My first self-dyed quilt is complete. In retrospect, a nice way of working.
Material: self dyed cotton, organza, voile
Size 40 x 33 inches.
I think it’s really interesting how your piece, Beth’s piece and mine would all work for the prompt “Light,” too. I also wanted to say that the detail photo makes a lovely piece of art on its own. I keep coming back to your fabulous quilt!
Was für eine wunderbare, stimmungsvolle Arbeit – ganz herzlichen Glückwunsch
Enchanting!
Gentle, soft and warm, though the piece speaks to me of winter days moving through morning, the mystery of time and place are focused toward your viewers… so beautifully a personal story waiting to be told, Elfriede!
Exquisite!
