The prompt of pattern immediately made me think of the Canterbury Plains in New Zealand. This is where I live. Flat farmland broken into paddocks with the backdrop of the Southern Alps on one side and a short distance to the sea on the other. This area clearly relates to pattern in a simple modern way.
It could be a crazy patchwork quilt or structured blocks with the pattern coming from the colours being used.
However there are lots of options when thinking about pattern. What about the patterns created in the rocks or sides of a mountain – not regular but layers of formation of rock in differing colours. Think about the pattern in the braided rivers of Canterbury or the labyrinth created by the Southern Alps.
A complete change of tack might be the pattern of migration of people to New Zealand over the years, or the weather patterns in different parts of the country. Very close to home at the moment is the pattern of Cyclone Gabrielle and the hideous destruction it has caused. My hugs and prayers go out to the people of Northland, Auckland and the Hawkes Bay and other areas impacted. This has changed the pattern of life and will impact people for years.
Plenty to contemplate with this prompt. Looking forward to all the reveals!
Formation, structure, and the patterns of our lives…we see and dream and understand the values and the changes in the light and colour. Amazing grace for the world is what we see… and I am thinking of those in Northland, Auckland and Hawkes Bay along with you…
You certainly have given us lots of patterns to think about. I can’t wait to see which direction you take..
