“I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.”

We Cloth-in-commoners have been together long enough now that I think I have a sense of what you all are about and so I am quite excited to offer up our next prompt — Night! I know you will take on the challenge with imagination, humor and deeply thoughtful responses.

I considered several possible themes, but Night was always high on my list, then I saw these two wonderful paintings by George Copeland Ault in the deYoung Museum in San Francisco last week and the decision was made!

Will you focus on darkness, or on light? Will your night be filled with stars, or music, or firelight or velvety deep colors, dark shadows or the refuge of sleep? Is it a metaphor for sorrow or quiet or a time for renewal and rest? Romantic or lonely?

Over the years I have made only a few quilts focusing on night. Here is my favorite.

Perhaps it will “spark” some inspiration!
