The prompt of building suggests bricks and mortar, houses, theatres, office blocks etc. This is obvious but as I think more into it I come up with all sorts of ideas. Travelling around New Zealand I wonder how our early settlers and travelers forged the many roads through the mountains, alongside the rivers and up and down the valleys. Often narrow and dangerous in parts, I’m sure many lives were lost, building the roads we have today.

Thinking about our early settlers who travelled across the world having left family and friends behind probably never to see them again. They now had to build new relationships and new families in a foreign country miles from their family support systems. This would have been difficult to say the least and still happens today as people leave behind their country of birth to start anew elsewhere.

Not sure which avenue I’ll take for this one but plenty of food for thought!

  1. There is so much to consider in this prompt, Catherine. I am touched by the reference to leaving home and building a new life, family separations and hope for ‘coming together’. Thank you for this reminder of how important the people are in the process….
