The red list is an officially established list of plants that are known as threatening in the Netherlands. Since 1950, nearly 500 of the 1536 native wild plant species in the Netherlands have declined in number. More than 40 species are already extinct. ( according to Wikipedia)

A similar list also exists in other countries. Not only from plants but also from endangered species. This list is getting longer and more and more plants and animals are disappearing, because their habitat is being disturbed. I only mentioned a few plant names on the quilt. Both the Dutch and the scientific name. If I wanted to list all the names, I would need meters of fabric. There is no start to that, so I made a small selection. 

With the help of my daughter Marian, we printed the names on fabric in a red color. 

Then, with a friend, I spent a day working on eco-printing. A white bed sheet served as a base. We made prints with different leaves and pickling and then let everything boil in a steam pan. That was an exciting event. With a nice result.

I deliberately placed these two substances in cross-shape to emphasize the seriousness of the situation. With a dark yellow color background (hand painted) got into a beautiful whole. 

The top was born and the quilting could begin. For me always a party to add an extra dimension to the quilt. I embroidered a few wild knight’s spurs flowers to connect with the text and the leaves.
