I live in a rural neighborhood surrounded by mostly native flora and fauna. If you know the Sierra Nevada foothills in northern California, you might be wondering why my quilt has so much green, when most of the year it’s so brown (or as we like to say, golden). For a very short time in late winter and early spring, the hills are covered with green grass. The new leaves are chartruese tinged with red, and the sky reflecting on creeks full of water make the water look blue.
