Doerte-Ina Liebing
Shame is an extremely social emotion because it reflects the rules and values of the society. Shame is a therefore very human feeling. Maybe you can say it is the strongest emotion of the world.
I have dealt with the subject in a different context before. In fact, I dealt with a topic and the subject „shame“ arose from it. The name of this work is: „ Nothing has passed, nothing can be forgotten“ (2017), (https://www.doerte-ina-liebing.de/galerie/ ; image no. 16)
My new work is inspired by two novels. On the one hand by the novel by Annie Ernaux “ The shame” and on the other by the novel by Margaret Atwood “The Handmaid’s Tale”
In particular, the novel by Margaret Atwood touched me so much that I was almost unable to finish reading.
Hand dyed cotton, lino cut, breakdown printing, machine quilting
40″ x 54,33 “
I like your observation that shame depends on a social context, and may be the strongest emotion. The quilt supports that.
I would really like to see this piece in person, Doerte-Ina. It looks like there are many details that would be worth looking closely at.
The stitching is amazing and supports the composition so well. I like the face, it is a strong image.
Beautifully executed, your piece resonates with Margaret Attwood’s book in many ways. This piece is a stellar example of deep feelings, a hidden burden that is weighing on many of us, and life. Enjoyed the detailed photos and your print/stitch work is exceptional.
