This was a challenging prompt. Words have become weapons in our current political environment. The words spoken are meant to silence those who are not in agreement with current policies and beliefs. This is happening in our workplaces, our schools, our medical communities, our art venues. It seeps into our homes when despair creates silence between loved ones because we are too emotionally exhausted for words.

Suzanne Vega inspired this piece with her song ” Language” I encourage you to listen to it in its entirety.

These are the words that sang to me.

If language were liquid
It would be rushing in
Instead here we are
In a silence more eloquent
Than any word could ever be

This is meaning of this song:

“Language” by Suzanne Vega explores the limitations and complexities of communication and the depth of silence as an alternative means of connection. The song contemplates the inadequacy of words in capturing the full essence of human experience and emotions. It suggests that language is static and unable to convey the fluidity and intensity of thoughts and sensations, leaving gaps and nuances that remain unexpressed.

This song resonates deeply as I seek to find balance when I feel anger, dread, fear some days there are no words.

  1. Those colors, those jewel tones, are eloquent in and of themselves. And that crowning jewel in the center really makes it!
