I don’t really like snow or should I say winter in general. Growing up in Niagara Falls Canada, we celebrate winter with the Festival of Lights. Queen Victoria Park is decorated with over one million lights. Lights in the trees, on the buildings and even the Falls themselves take on a holiday presence!

I like to view the snow from a cozy warm room with a good cup of Latte. We have recently moved to a new high rise building on the fifth floor. I was looking forward to viewing the snow on the ground from that height, but unfortunately or not we have yet to have any snow this winter! ( so sad)

I rent a studio that looks over a cemetery. ( very quiet) and I see the trees bending in the wind. The fog this winter has been unusual and almost daily, casting a grey blue haze over everything. I painted a small watercolour with this in mind.

I also found some wonderful fabric that had a foggy grey/blue hue. I pieced and quilted this fabric then added small “pancakes” and a stripe of batik for punch. I was pleased how the watercolour complimented the fabric!

  1. Stunning work, Al… and I love the dimension and beautiful movement of the icy, cool colours as they move through the cloth…tell us more…
