I am a very literal person and so when I heard the next Prompt was Spring I immediately thought of the metal types not the season. I live in Australia where the seasons are not as severe as most of my fellow Cloth in Common artists. We don’t wait desperately for the snow to melt or frozen gardens to thaw. In fact I am still able to work outside in the garden for most of winter.
So for me the idea of springs bouncing around came to the foreground of my brain and as I tend to work spontaneously I chose to do a work based on springs.
I played around in Photoshop with an image of multiple springs until they were just lines and shapes and then fused some hand dyed fabrics and some hand painted silk organza to Mistyfuse fusible web and then pinned them to my full size images.
As I was going on a working cruise I took them along and confused the other people on the cruise by sitting and cutting out my springs.
Once home with my spring, I selected a painted piece of background fabric from my stash and fused the springs to the fabric
The hand dyed fabric springs were the main images and the organza ones create the shadow.
Once all fused into place I had great fun using my new Bernina Q20 to quilt all the raw edges down and then a busy background pattern.
