Its Springtime in New Zealand and the blossom is in full flight everywhere. Its so pretty! The juxtaposition of the beautiful blossom against hard architecture of buildings tends to soften the view and make it more pleasing to the eye.
However, after our major earthquakes in Christchurch in 2010/2011, I was fascinated with how nature regrows so quickly even though the buildings were in such disrepair. You found cracks in building foundations suddenly sprouting new bright green growth as nature searched for the sun! This happened in the roads and sides of buildings as well. Wherever there was a crack nature was trying to come out and reclaim its original ownership of the earth.
How will I reflect this in my piece this round? I have a great deconstructed screen-printed piece of fabric that is calling out to be used for this. Maybe I’ll couch green threads onto it?
On another note, I was lucky to be able to showcase my 12 pieces from round 4 in an exhibition. It was great to see them all hanging together and it generated a lot of discussion as people read about it and looked at the transition of colour through the pieces.
