Treading water can mean many things from actual water images through to your mental health. My take on this prompt has been to reflect where I am at with my work/business life v my artistic life.
I have spent the last few months trying to decide whether or not to apply for a new job. I was tired and in need of a long break so have taken the time to do just that. I am enjoying the break and the big benefit is I have had more time for my artistic life!
I have completed 3 reasonably large sized quilts for entry to our biennial National Quilt Symposium which I’m delighted with. Unfortunately no photos until the event in October. I have also made some small SAQA and local challenge quilts so feel I have achieved a lot this year and we are only half way through.
The big question though is will I look for more paid work? Am I really ready to give that up as I enjoy the challenges associated with the type pf work I was doing? I’m not sure so am biding my time and possibly transitioning to my full time artistic life.
As you will be aware I have been working in a series for this Cloth in Common round and now that we are 7 prompts in I thought I would share my series to date.
Its interesting to see how the colours and the symbols are changing with each prompt through to quite blue with the most recent one.

Your work is so beautiful and soothing.
Stunning colour and design in every piece of the series, Catherine. Love the quiet blue.. enjoy creating more!!
It’s a beautiful series! The color palette is beautiful and rich. Excellent!
Just love what you are doing. Maybe it is time for artist Catherine to have the time to just create.
Great work!! Fabulous use of colour.
