The changing of the seasons is always a celebration here in Michigan. As much as I would enjoy living in a warmer climate, I would miss the cyclical change in weather, changing of the clothing wardrobes and differences in the variety of fresh foods available at our farmers markets.
Suffice it to say, Michigan had an incredibly cold and long winter. It was miserable and I was miserable with our winter for the record books. ( Ask my husband.) The weather has just warmed up the past two weeks. Last week, on one of our first 75 degree days, my husband popped into my studio and asked me if I wanted to take a quick trip to the Tulip Festival in Holland, MI. Even though I was knee deep working on a large piece, I instantly dropped it all and put my shoes on and out the door we went.
The Tulip Festival did not disappoint us. The cooler weather had slowed the blooms down a bit and fruit trees and tulips were a riot of color and smells. Here a few of my favorites.
I am always a sucker for red tulips as they are so classy.
A nice variety of pinks as pink is one of my favorite colors. I thought this next variety was a rose at first. The delicacy of the petals impressed me.
I was grateful that I embraced a little spontaneity and said yes to my husband. All in all an afternoon visit to the Tulip Festival made for a great day and gave me well needed time to savor spring here in Michigan. What are you doing to enjoy the spring season?
