Crows seek connection, recognize, tolerate and sometimes enjoy humans.

In my dream I am offering Dennis a peanut (Dennis is the most endearing hopping crow, my favorite) Shhhh…Don’t tell the others.

Perhaps Dennis Hopper is also dreaming of this moment of trust and mutual regard.

There is progress towards fulfilling my dream, Dennis has been training me…. by sitting on this post outside my studio window and cawing to get my attention. This is my invitation (or demand) to bring out the peanuts for the murder. Confidence in me is growing it seems. If in fact I am being invited to be physically closer to them I am delighted.

Perhaps they are just hungry, and Dennis is the bravest of them.

I wanted the background to be a dreamscape suggestive of time and movement.

By using a hand dyed silk organza for the crow’s body, the background fabric is visible through the silk giving it an ethereal texture. An estate sale provided me with a perfect button for the eye with a bead to give it a bit of shimmer.

I enjoyed creating this piece and hope it sends a message to the crows. I am moving towards another level of trust and dream they will join me.

  1. That’s lovely! Confidence building, trust forming, and a dream quietly coming true… Your work and quilting is amazing.

  2. Oh how beautiful! I could live forever looking at this piece! I too am fascinated with crows! Haven’t had one befriend me…….YET!

  3. Jacque, it seems that you and Dennis have a beautiful relationship and your work reflects the trust that is developing between you both. Your background to Dennis is like a mandala and raises Dennis to a special status. I don’t want to give him a swelled head by saying he is god-like.
