For me this prompt has inspired me to consider my current season in life… The sandwich season. I hope to create a good sandwich of balance, patience and communication to better navigate all the generational demands while practicing self care and continuing to be creative. I am not alone, so many friends are experiencing the challenges of balancing the different needs of their adult children having children and supporting aging parents. Some friends are becoming grandparents while some are grieving the loss of a parent, all while we embrace the challenges of our own aging bodies. In the midst of these changes some of our fiends are dying or struggling with life threatening illnesses. There are demands, joys and sorrows occurring at the same time within me and around me. Balancing these responsibilities and emotions with grace is my goal. The art I am creating for the prompt change of season will focus on capturing the contrasts of light, darkness and balance in this new season of life…Fall.
Welcome Jacque and thank you for the Sandwich. Maybe it is a Quilt Sandwich, where our life and goals are reflected in our art. Well, I guess we cannot separate them anyway and we all aim for grace and balance, in life, art, and relationships. I am looking forward to seeing how you draw these threads together in your quilt.
Ah, that resonates with me. I am beyond the sandwich season now. The death of my parents is many years in the past, though I think of them daily. But I understand completely. Perhaps we are always living in between the grief for what is past and hope for the future.
Your post has brought us a reminder, Jacque, of how life, caring and sharing are so important. With strength, we walk different paths, and yes, each with balance and awareness in supporting the comfort of friends and family. Thank you…
What a Beautiful reaction on the theme.
Welcome Jacque! Beautifully written. We look forward to your first quilt for Cloth in Common.
