I racked my brain trying to come up with an idea for this prompt! I used my hometown of Niagara Falls, Ontario for my musings and could not get the Falls off my mind. So I started playing with water and fabric and hoped that something would happen. First I did some ice dyeing …..thinking that I could watch the Porcion dyes melt through the ice and “flow” onto the fabrics, which they did beautifully……but I wasn’t ready to cut up the results! Then I decided to paint on canvas to help me relax and hoping an idea would appear, which it did. I finished the painting and while I was washing my hands the paint was colouring the soap suds……..bubbles of every colour!
I decided to make a “batch” of bubbles with paint (blue) and laid the fabric on top. The bubbles created “a beautiful pattern ….” Voila”! The flow of water did its job!
Finished piece…….aprox 41” X24”
Ice dyed linen. Machine pieced, machine quilted. Some commercial fabric also used.
finished ice dyed fabric that I could not cut just yet!
Oh that is simply beautiful — and I love the story of how you got ideas to flow.
This is stunning! The combination of textures and colors sing. Excellent!
I loved reading your process and am now itching to dye some fabrics!
Magic and focused beauty, favourite words that share my love of your artwork, Al! Terrific shading in your collection of dyed cloth, and exciting machine stitch! I can’t wait to see your Niagara art shared in person!! (I love seeing the Raven!)
