Over the last two years I have purposely worked in a series based on the prompts that have come through. It has amazed me that by changing one or maybe two pieces of fabric from one quilt to the next, that it has driven a dramatic colour change over this period.
My final piece “The Journey” is so different in colour from the first that I ensured I put one small acknowledgement to the first quilt with the green spotted fabric in the centre. This is the colour I started with.

My first piece on the right started out as crosses and circles but this evolved over time to a simpler structure that has a pieced background and then a fused image/design of some sort over the top. Even the stitching became a lot simpler! While the piece may be a lot simpler the fabrics and how they work together have evolved.

Also the sizes have changed from 25 inches wide to 9 inches and then back up to 25 inches. In September I am hoping to exhibit all 12 pieces in a row at our local quilt show. I’m excited to see this and get peoples reactions to the journey. I think it will generate a lot of discussion.
Why did I simplify the stitching? Why did I simplify the designs? Why did I focus on colour? Why did I make them different sizes? These are the type of questions I’m asking myself and think people will ask when they see the series together.
I will post videos and photos of the series when its hung so that you can see the journey for yourselves.
