In 1997 inspired by Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way I began writing daily morning pages, three pages of stream of consciousness writing to clear mental clutter before beginning the days art work. Overtime I changed this practice to something that suited me better a daily thought or inspiration. There are still many days I write pages of words to sort out complicated feelings or moments of joy. More often than not it is a a sentence or two that reflects my thoughts or feelings for the day. This practice is an important history taking habit for me. These words no matter the length of the words written can take me back to the day and the events that inspired them. To create this art I took phrases from my writings, photographed them and layered them with several meditative drawings and a painting I created, another less practiced habit that I enjoy…mark making to relax my mind.

This is beautiful!
Words on your heart. Words on the page. Words meandering across fiber art, from the mind of an old soul sage. I love this!
I envy you Jacque — I am terrible about putting down words! I’m sure I’ll regret it one day. But you’ve used the theme beautifully. Cudos!
I write to organize my “ monkey mind” keeps me grounded and helps sort out complicated feelings. Thank you for your comment!
Beautiful, Jacque…and I am so taken by the writing that has been included in this special artwork. We would love to know more about your layering of the lettering on the quilt- stunning detail.
Hi Bethany the words were excerpts of my journal writings through years rewritten by hand on paper. One layer is the words, another a drawing ,another layer is a painted piece…. using FotoDa I worked to create the layers that most spoke to me visually. The letters were outlined with stitch on my sewing machine to enhance them. Hand stitching in the areas of red to increase the visual impact. I hope that answers your question?
