Quilt from my guest quilter Elfriede Grooten.
We have to go back in time quite far to understand the inspiration for this quilt. In 1835 the naturalist Charles Darwins voyage led him to the Galápagos Islands. He discovered finches that looked a bit different from island to island. Specifically the size and shape of their beak differed.
He noticed similarities to the finches he had seen in Latin America. All finches must originate from a kind of primeval finch!
By being isolated per island, the finches developed beaks that helped them eat nuts that grew on the islands. In time, several different species originated, to a total of 13 at this present moment!
This is, or was the engine of evolution, based on natural selection.

I find it fascinating that you and Sandra came up with the same idea with the topic isolation. It reminds us that some good things can come out of isolation. Thank you for being part of our group for this prompt.
Beautifully realized idea, I love the stitching and the soft muted colours.
What an intriguing thought—that our isolation allows our surroundings to shape us. Beautifully realized in your quilt of dreamy color and forms. Very lovely! Thank you for adding your voice to our project!
