Winter Cold
It’s a great honour to choose a theme. Above all, it is very exciting to see what everyone has done with the theme.
Like I said, I didn’t want to make it too difficult. Hence my choice
“change of season”. There is another reason for the choice. I worked out the seasons in quilts. But winter was still missing.
In the Netherlands, the seasons are clearly different, but due to climate change, it remains milder in winter and summers are getting warmer. This development is worrying.
I used this opportunity to complete my fourth quilt.
In all quilts I used the same basic pattern, but turned a quarter turn each time. Here are the examples.
In the winter season I had to wear a little bit of red, because of the holidays. To illustrate the bare trees, I have indicated the contours with tulle, see detail.
Dimensions: 39.5” h x 39.5” w
Material: cotton, silk, polyester, tulle,
Technique: machine sewing and longarm quilted
Elfriede, I’m enjoying the silky, textured snow and the abstract way you designed the tree. I miss snow.
Thinking of the art we have seen and loved in the seasonal quilts you have shared, and this winter you bring us a beautiful, intricate and beautifully stitched addition. I love the many choices of colour and shimmer here – and the fine, transparent tree cloth. Stunning.
