The past several months have brought us such an amazingly unique sharing of thoughts in my community. There have been worries.. a time for contemplation in our world and yes, wondering how we will move through the days ahead. And while there is a time for looking to the future and building on what could possibly be next, another more important path is on my change of mind…
How do we build comfort for others as we look into the beauty of a new year fast approaching? There are future opportunities that we consider and are building on right now in our community that mean so much to our families and friends. There are great days, and gathering just outside my studio for shared chatter and “making” as we work together. My own group of friends considered what has been focused on building up instead of tearing apart what has been troublesome around our world.
So many thanks to our friends around the world right here as we all share our thoughts and ponder on what we see and understand. There are world-wide changes on their minds too. Exciting additions to each of the beautiful artworks that are here for us to celebrate mean so much to me, and I am sure for you.
You can see where I have wandered across my cloth here, unsure of what the future is bringing… the lines and stitches are confusing – and yet, this is a map that quietly takes me into current time and my own concentration. As the hand-dyed colour on my cotton cloth speaks to bold and beautiful, the fine lines are here moving through the waters in my mind. What could be next….
Standing alone in a hallway, my artwork…and I, watching the Lake Ontario winds blowing all the while here inside, standing close to the Tett Centre hall window, seeing the fast-approaching winter skies. Well, I have many changes coming to mind.
I can’t wait to get started on our next prompt.
Bethany Garner, “On my mind – and what could possibly be next?”
H-9, CIC Finished Art, Layered Cotton Linen, hand-dyed cloth and yarns, machine stitching. 40L x 21w, Ready for hanging
Love this piece and the way you’ve heightened the darkness at the bottom of the fabric pieces so that the blocks give a sense of three-dimensionality. Also love the way you used machine AND hand quilting. And the hand dyed fabrics are luscious!! Lovely work!
Oh what beautiful colors! And I love the picture of your quilt by the window. Somehow the context gives it depth and even more beauty.
Thank you, Martha…so appreciate your comment! I love that window for taking a photo… and the Tett Centre walls close to my studio that are over 125 years old…my sanctuary.
