For the past 100 years, the Earth has been warming faster than ever in history. The average temperature at the Earth’s surface has risen about 1.1℃ since 1850.
The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets melting rapidly. The number of weather-related disasters has increased by a factor of five over 50 years. Over the past 100 years, due to rising temperatures, the Antarctic and the Arctic glaciers have melted, rising sea level by 20 cm (8″) and still rising.
These factors affect the weather, and natural disasters such as Typhoons, heavy rains, and extreme droughts are increasing. As a result, problems such as water shortage, desertification, and food crisis are seriously emerging.
In the meantime, the whole world is trying to solve this problem by suggesting various ways, but it seems to me that nothing has changed significantly. There were more cases where cooperation failed depending on the interests of each country. Meanwhile, the global warming is progressing faster and faster.
We must recognize the seriousness of climate change and not neglect it any longer. Because this is a matter of human survival.
I so agree, Eunhee… and if we consider individually how the serious effects are bringing angst and pain to our world, our families and our lives – and take climate change much MORE seriously than we ever have, there may be hope.
