The prompt for our November reveal quilts is Climate Change. Elfriede encourages us all to become aware of structural changes needed to get to a better world. This is one of the most difficult prompts! I’ve dithered and dithered.

What I can say is that, for me, every day is earth day. I learned this from my father. And he probably learned it from being in the scouts. Do something good every day. Don’t just be good, do good. It’s more than just camping. Leave the world a better place than you found it. If you see a need, take the lead. These are things I can control – things I can do every day. Thanks Dad.

There were many celebrations on the first earth day in 1970. I remember the headlines and magazine covers, the crowds. We planted trees in our yard and helped clean up the Thruway.

I must have made this ECOLOGY shirt to commemorate the day.

Today I don’t have grass, I’m surrounded by trees. We grow our own vegetables. We plant native species to encourage the bees and butterflies. The birds love our yard. We recycle, reuse, repurpose. We’ve gone green and are eco-friendly. For us, it is a matter of earth day, every day. I’m not sure what my quilt will look like, but I’d take bets that it will contain green!

  1. This will be interesting. It’s not easy to grow native plants here, where I need permission to change the landscape.

  2. Hear! Hear Susan! I wouldn’t know where to begin either, but judging from your picks, it’s going to be a doozy! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  3. So great to have your story here, Susan. It shares your strong commitment and life long focus on doing good that reflects on a path we can all celebrate.

Tell us what you think.
