The color red has a mysterious power.
It captivates the viewer’s heart and gives them the courage to move forward.
Red is also the color of beginnings, and in Japan it has long been an essential color for celebratory wedding attire, where couples start a new life with passion and hope.
Japonist paintings, which were popular mainly in France in the 19th century, depict beautiful Western women in celebratory kimonos with smiles shining.
I created a work in homage to the impressionist painter Claude Monet “La Japone”.

I think red is one of the most fitting colors to represent celebration.
It’s a beautiful homage!
You are so right about red having a mysterious power! I am drawn to large splashes of red in art, but not sure how to wield or control it in my own work, so I usually avoid it. You have done a beautiful job harnessing its power for a great effect and affect. I wish I could see this up close!
