5-5 Fallen Leaves
Martha Ressler
I have a modest but maybe impossible dream. I would like to live long enough to shuffle through the fallen dead leaves accumulated in our private forest. Since we planted it in 2020, the trees are not yet big enough to produce enough. I know fallen leaves enrich the soil (actually create soil), and provide hiding places for some small wild life. Plus then we wouldn’t have to mow any longer – the fallen leaves kill the grass.
I know this is a small dream – compared to, for example wishing for Peace in the Middle East. But, you asked, and this is the thing I long for. Another 10 to 15 years will do it!. Maybe it’s possible!!!

There is brilliance in the silence.
Beautiful!
I love the idea of creating something that lives on and continues to give! Beautiful work!

Thank you Al, and thanks for the great prompt!
This is a fine dream, Martha, and I wish it comes true for you!! Beautiful work!
Phew! Thank you.
Martha, your dream is not a little one. To plant a tree that will outlive you and know that generations to come might appreciate all the benefits a tree provides is a wonderful gift to the Earth. Nurture it well.
Ah, good way to put it. I’m sure you’ve heard this: “When is the best time to plant a tree?” Answer: “20 years ago.” “When is the second best time?” Answer: “Today.”
This is so lovely. I can smell the earthy breeze blowing through the trees and hear the whispers of the wind among the leaves that have yet to fall. I can hear the crunch of dry leaves under foot and flutter of wings as the startled birds overhead take flight. The forest wants to pull you in to while away a day under its canopy. Enchanting!
Thank you Christie. I was fearful at how small I had dreamed. But you make it sound pretty good!
Wow!!! Gorgeous!!
Thank you, Laura!

Thank you Catherine. I was afraid it was too small a dream. But it’s mine nevertheless!
