Ah, lines! I love playing with lines in my abstract works. There is so much you can do with them as design elements, the possibilities are endless. A while ago, I filled up a small sketchbook with doodles of thin lines, with different markers and all black and white graphics. It was so much fun and gave me lots of inspiration for patterns and quilting lines.

A few pages in my sketchbook

I like those thin lines, but there are also thicker lines, or with varying thicknesses, or wobbly lines, straight lines, and so on. For the overarching theme of “Structures”, I’m thinking of these kinds of lines in a more structured, architectural setting. Not sure where I’m heading with this idea, but I will enjoy it.

  1. Love the sketches here, Regina…good fun will be had in the months to come…and I love your line play! I am using a journal to just sit and sketch-play before a start on my piece, and I can’t wait to see yours!
