In search of a nice theme for today’s blog post, I walked through my garden and found quite a bit of flexibility.

Nature offers us wonderful examples. Let’s take a garden hose for example. It must be made of a completely flexible material so that we can place it in every corner, no matter how hidden, or around narrow curves and, in addition, sometimes cover long distances so that we can water our plants or whatever else needs to be watered. However, if it is to be stowed away to save space when not in use, it is best to hide it from view. Quite a lot of requirements.

There is a science, bionic, that deals with exactly this topic: How can we learn from nature? How can we use the natural environment for a technical environment? In the search for the most suitable materials, for example to produce a flexible but stable garden hose, optimized solutions are sought and nature often offers the decisive basis.

  1. Ah, the precious hose. Simplicity and inspiration abounds….Looking into your photos brings us a reminder that art is in the discovery (and I love the soft colour palette in the last photo!).
