I was born in a town at the foot of Mt. Fuji, one of Japan’s most iconic mountains.

The mountains are covered with snow in winter.

In the spring, the snow melts and seeps underground, and in early summer, it flows into my home town as a beautiful stream.

In the park where the water springs up, a  cluster of small white flowers named “Baikasou” blooms.

It is a flower that heralds the arrival of summer.

  1. I want to crawl into my computer screen so I can see this in person. I see some shimmery cloth, and did you add beads? Great use of Organdy.

  2. Your imagery reminds me of time I’ve spent staring into a slow-flowing part of the small river I grew up next to it. I can smell the air and the quiet flow of the water. One of my favorite memories of childhood. I believe, I’ve found the same kind of white flowering plants in the Olympic National Park here in Washington State.
    Lovely work.

  3. You have captured the look and feel of the ‘Baikasou’ in bloom under water. There are openings in a few circles where a drop of water has fallen so you can see through a clear view of what is underneath the water surface. Just Beautiful

  4. Softly sharing the joy of spring, the design collection of fabrics and stitch celebrate the change of season. Your art is beautiful, Mikiko.
