A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about my family firepit that inspired this piece. It’s where we gather each evening to share our day. My favorite part of our gathering is when the roaring flames turn to embers, the stars come out and we hear the quiet of the night. We listen to the last crackles of oak and pine and poplar and watch the last few sparks fade into the purple black sky.

I love your description. I can feel the flames and hear the wood pop and look up at the stars.
Thanks Martha. So glad this piece resonates.
You have such emotional stories of your family and I love how you incorporate them into your quilts.
Thanks Lisa! Living in Lapland gives me lots of fodder for the fire, so to speak.
It really seems to flicker with light! A very successful piece.
Thanks Jean! This one was fun to make.
A great colour palette and composition. Your inspiration stories are always so interesting!
Thanks Regina! I’m finding that using strip piecing for our CiC pieces really works. And glad you like the stories. Living in Lapland makes it easy!
Sparks are everywhere in this beautiful work!
Glad you see them! Thanks!!
Such a beautiful story with each post, Susan… and I love the brilliance of the colour here along with the exciting composition – and yes, it does remind me of the fun we feel as we ‘light the fire’.
Thanks Bethany! So glad you enjoy the stories too.
