Stewart Island

When looking at the theme of light I had recently visited Stewart Island in New Zealand. This is actually a group of 170 islands based around the largest and only populated island in Stewart Island. Next stop after here is really Antarctica! Because they are close to the sun going down they get magnificent sunsets as shown here. This was the last night of our trip and the colours were stunning.

I was fascinated at how the colours lit up the sea below and showcased a quiet tranquility in the evening. Normally oranges and yellows conjure up excitement and glare however here as the sun went down it radiated a peaceful transition into darkness. This is what light does – it helps us see and as it fades away it lets us adjust to the darkness.

What will my reveal be next week? You will have to wait and see!

  1. Such a gorgeous look into the late evening sky, Catherine. The beauty resonates as we celebrate that the light can bring calm and peace…and inspire rest.
